Caring for your suspension kit

The threads and parts of a coilover suspension kit live under the car, exposed to water, mud and dust every day.

A few simple routine checks keep the adjusters working and help you spot problems early.

Routine care

  • Rinse off mud and sand — from the threads, spring perch and shock body, especially after dusty or unpaved roads. Don’t aim a high-pressure jet directly at the seals.
  • Look for oil — if oil is running down the shock body, have a technician check it
  • Check dust boots and bump stops — they should not be torn or out of place
  • Check the lock rings — they should always be tight
  • Listen — a new clunk or squeak is a sign to get it checked
  • Watch tyre wear — uneven wear can mean the alignment is out

Rainy season and after driving through water

After driving through floodwater or mud, rinse the suspension as soon as you can, then go through the checks above again.

Damping adjusters

  • Only adjust with the car stationary
  • Never force an adjuster past its end stop
  • Keep a note of the setting on every shock

When to see a technician

  • Oil is running down the shock body
  • Unusual noises over bumps or when steering
  • The car bounces or rolls more than it used to
  • The ride height has changed on its own, or left and right no longer match
  • The steering wheel is off-centre, or the car pulls to one side
  • An adjuster turns without clicking between settings

Contact your installer first. If you think a part is faulty, make a claim with our after-sales team on DGR Thailand’s LINE Official account.

What not to do

  • Change the ride height yourself and skip the wheel alignment
  • Leave lock rings loose
  • Keep driving for a long time with a torn dust boot
  • Open the DCS-2 reservoir, release its nitrogen or refill it yourself — the pressure can be adjusted and refilled, but only by a technician with the proper equipment
